The CSL locales current contain a “references” term, which is not yet
used by any styles in the archive. Would it be possible to replace
this with a “reference” term that has singular and plural children?
(Patch for en-US locale attached.)
The use case for this comes from the previous cs:list structure, where
the style would include the heading.
So we either need to add this functionality back (but this ties back
to previous discussion of multiple bibs and such), or drop the term
altogether.

The functionality described in the ticket is working, I just need the
term to provide the right in-text label in one of the possible
permutations of the cite (citation-number style, cite as part of
text).
Feel free to change the terms schema (in the split branch) as needed.
