In Zotero, this:

(Lane, 2004a; Lane, 2004b)

… should be:

(Lane, 2004a, 2004b)

… I believe (not sure about the precise punctuation though). You need
to group and sort within the citation, and shorten subsequent references
when there are more than one from the same author.

This should probably be configurable, in case some style doesn’t use
a comma and a space as a delimiter for this, or doesn’t do it at all.
