accessed variable

Hi all,

Could someone tell me where data in the “accessed” variable comes from? I realize it’s a date, but what does it represent? An example of how Zotero uses it might put things in context.

In my understanding you typically use it to indicate the date you accessed a
source that may change over time, e.g. a website. E.g.
http://wwwlib.murdoch.edu.au/find/citation/ieee.html#Electronic%20Documents%20Ref%20Listincludes
the following example citation for the IEEE style:

Article in online encyclopaedia

[3] D. Ince, “Acoustic coupler,” in A Dictionary of the Internet. Oxford:
Oxford University Press, 2001. [Online]. Available: Oxford Reference Online,
http://www.oxfordreference.com. [Accessed: May 24, 2005].
